Omgeving en bereikbaarheid
De Bankastraat is een rustige straat nabij het Timorplein en de Javastraat. De Indische buurt in Amsterdam-Oost is de afgelopen jaren veranderd tot een geliefde oude stadswijk met prachtige gerenoveerde panden met veel voorzieningen op loopafstand. Het heeft een centrale ligging nabij de dagelijkse Dappermarkt, het Oosterpark, Tropenmuseum, Flevopark (en zwembad) en Artis. Voor de (buurt)winkels kunt u onder andere terecht op de Javastraat, Molukkenstraat en de Eerste Van Swindenstraat. Wanneer heb je de woning gekocht en waarom heb je toen besloten deze woning te kopen?
Ik heb het appartement begin 2011 gekocht; nadat ik al vele jaren met veel plezier in Amsterdam Oost had gewoond in verscheidene huurhuizen. Het appartement in de Bankstaat sprong er direct uit vanwege de vele originele details. Ik ben niet de enige die van mening is dat de Bankastraat een van de mooiere straten is van de Indische Buurt, en daarbinnen is dit huis met de authentieke witte balkons een echte eye catcher. Verscheidene bewoners, inclusief mijzelf, hebben het appartement door de jaren heen aangepast aan de tijd, maar altijd met oog voor originele details. Dat sommige van deze details al meer dan 120 jaar meegaan, geeft een zeer bijzonder gevoel.
Wat maakt het zo prettig wonen in dit huis en in deze buurt?
Wat ook zo fijn is aan het appartement en de straat is dat je in een relatieve oase van rust woont, het is een rustige straat en je kan heerlijk genieten van de zon: in de zomer wordt het op het balkon nooit te warm door de schaduw van de boom; en aan de voorzijde kan je zelfs genieten van de avondzon. Tegelijkertijd is de bruisende stad nooit ver weg: op loopafstand zijn meer dan genoeg winkels, horeca en andere voorzieningen. Tot slot is het een zeer ruim en slim ingedeeld appartement, waardoor de verschillende vertrekken veel ruimer ogen dan je in eerste instantie zou verwachten bij een appartement van deze omvang.

When did you buy the house and why did you decide to buy this house?
I bought the apartment in early 2011; after I had enjoyed living in Amsterdam East for many years in various rented houses. The apartment in the Bankastraat immediately stood out because of the many original details. I am not the only one who thinks that the Bankastraat is one of the nicer streets in the Indische Buurt, and this house with the authentic white balconies is a real eye catcher. Several residents, myself included, have adapted the apartment to the times over the years, but always with an eye for original details. The fact that some of these details have been around for more than 120 years gives a very special feeling.
What makes it so pleasant to live in this house and in this neighborhood?
What is also nice about the apartment and the street is that you live in a relative oasis of peace, it is a quiet street and you can enjoy the sun: in the summer it never gets too hot on the balcony due to the shade from the tree; and at the front you can even enjoy the evening sun. At the same time, the bustling city is never far away: there are more than enough shops, restaurants and other facilities within walking distance. Finally, it is a very spacious and cleverly laid out apartment, so that the various rooms look much more spacious than you would initially expect for an apartment of this size.
